Lynsay & Wills' wedding was an all day shoot for us, starting off with bridal preparation with Lynday at her parent's house which was a hive of excitable activity all morning. Lynsay impressed us from the start with her cool and calm exterior, despite all the madness and particularly faced with a day of torrential rain ahead of her. She remained relaxed and happy all morning, with a great sense of humour to boot!
The couple got married at Twynholm Church, which was an experience for us as we had to battle against paparazzi photographers who were there to spot Lynsay's famous brother.
After the ceremony, everyone ventured onto a marquee in the glorious grounds of Cardoness. The weather was a bit of a shame from our point of view, as we'd been particularly looking forward to shooting the couple down on the nearby secluded beach with its own tiny chapel, but the change in conditions forced us to improvise. We were really grateful to Mark and his lovely wife who welcomed us into Cardoness House where they lived so that we could take some portraits, without which we admit we might have struggled!
Once the night was in full swing, and all of the guests were enjoying the music and dancing, the awful weather outside was forgotten, and I think it's fair to say that a good time was had by all! Thanks to Lynsay & Will for giving us the opportunity to photograph their special day for them. |

Not wanting to seem obsessed with the weather, but this was definitely one of those bad weather days, when lady luck was on our side.
Fiona & Stephen got married in New Luce Parish Church, and although the skies were blue in the lead up to the ceremony, once inside the church the heaven's opened, leaving poor Lynne outside under a brolly setting up a tripod for the group shots. As if by some miracle, as soon as the newly weds left the church, the sun came out once again, leaving us enough time to take all the group shots.

Tessa & Fabio got married in one of the most breathtaking locations I have visited for a wedding, which is also Tessa's family home...a stunning castle set in the most amazing grounds near Lockerbie. I had previously visited in the winter of 2010, when snow covered the ground, but even then I could see the potential for a Spring wedding and was full of ideas.
Unfortunatley, the weather was a bit disappointing on the morning of the wedding, putting a stop to some of my plans and meaning that the original outdoor ceremony was to be held in a marquee. However, the light was so amazing and Tessa looked so radiant, that it didn't stop me from getting great photos. The couple opted for a predominantly reportage style wedding, preferring for me to capture natural moments between them over the more posed portrait style, but they did go for a few group shots, with the twist that they injected some humour into most of them. My particular favourite was their interpretation of the 'blue steel' look from the film Zoolander....brilliant! Interested in learning the blue steel 'look'? |

Poor Jane & Martin had terrible weather to contend with on their wedding day. What started out as a very windy day soon lead onto rain in its bucketloads, but we tried to make the most of what we had and, despite being challenged with where to take large group shots, we enjoyed the day loads.
Jane looked beautiful and when she arrived at the church in Wigtown the light streamed in through the large church windows, there were some great photo opportunities during the ceremony.

Springtime at Hetland Hall |
It was a beautiful spring day at Hetland Hall on the day Cathy & Kevin got married.
They live down South, but had chosen this venue in Dumfries for their special day, so had travelled up the day before in anticipation.
The ceremony was held outside by a waterfall, and you really could not have wished for a more beautiful location to get hitched. Cathy was walked down the aisle by her two young sons, then the rings were delivered to Kevin by a stunning bird of prey, which seems to be quite the thing this year so far with the weddings I've photographed!
I had an opportunity to take the couple off for some quiet time to get some portraits, and take advantage of the amazing cherry blossoms which were in full bloom in the amazing gardens.
A lovely couple, I wish them lots of happiness together in their new married life. |
