A Windy Day at Mabie House |
I had photographed Julie's sisters wedding last year so had already met Julie & Richard and some of their family prior to the big day.
The day was really beautiful, bright and sunny, which you would think would be the ideal conditions for an outdoor wedding, but it was the wind which caused the trouble on this otherwise glorious day. It was so fierce that it was throwing up all the dirt from the ground, making it a challenging day for the bride, groom and their guests. It did not take anything away from the day, however, which was a beautiful affair.

Just Hitched at Knockbrex |
It seemed fitting that my first wedding of 2011 was at the same venue as my last for the previous year, Knockbrex. As with the previous wedding, the weather was looking good which is always a bonus.
Andrea & Mark's ceremony began on a high, with the rings being delivered by an impressive eagle owl, much to the guests delight. This was followed by a very emotional and touching ceremony, with lots of tears and laughter throughout. Mark then proceeded to lead his newly wed wife outside and show her what he was wearing under his kilt...thankfully for everyone else, a pair of 'Just Hitched' pants!

Well that's the last wedding for the year finished. Pascalle and Job (pronounced Yobe), a Dutch couple, got married on Thursday at Knockbrex the folly in Borgue, Dumfries & Galloway. They decided to get married in Scotland even though they had never been here before! They arrived a few days earlier and visited all then key places in the area, the local whiskey distillery Bladnoch and the Cocoa Bean chocolate factory.

Threave Garden near washout! |
I'd kept my eye on the weather report more than usual for this wedding. Mhairi and David were getting married at Threave Gardens in Castle Douglas and if the weather stayed dry the ceremony would be in the gardens, otherwise 90 people were going to be squashed into two rooms of the grand old house. Well the weather report was looking ok, with sunny spells due for the afternoon, however the morning started grey and very wet! |

Friars Carse was originally a 13th Century Friary, now believed to be haunted by Robbie Burns! Another amazing location with long sloping grass down to its own corner of the river nith, where 'Rabbie' allegedly wrote one of his poems. He also wrote an inscription to the then owner of Friars Carse "To the Memory of Robert Riddell" on the hermitage window with a diamond! |
