Giles Atkinson started taking photos at the age of 12, when he saved up and bought his first camera. Life eventually took Giles down a different career path,, spending years working in the IT sector within the music industry, but throughout this period his camera was never far away, and he even managed to get his first paid job photographing PR shots for a hip hop act.
Fast forward to 2008, Giles made the decision to set up Giles Atkinson Photography, to realise his dream of pursuing a passion and turn it into his career. Since then, Giles has become a well established wedding photographer in Dumfries and Galloway.
Giles prefers a relaxed, reportage style when shooting weddings, choosing to document the day by capturing moments as they happen. Although his style is mostly natural, Giles does like to photograph portraits with a wow factor, which require a certain amount of direction. Originally inspired by landscape photographer Ansel Adams, Giles has a preference for black and white photography which evokes a certain mood and drama.
When he’s not behind a camera, Giles can be found kayaking around the Solway coast, mountain biking down local trails or walking ‘Chilli’ the dog. He lives in Kirkcudbright with wife Lynne and three kids.
