When Rowan & Bruce asked me to photograph their Wedding at Cardoness Beach last year, we were all envisaging sunshine and blue skies for the big day. But this is Scotland and so it was no surprise that on the day the weather Gods had other plans!
I started off with Rowan and her bridesmaids at Conifer Lodges near Newton Stewart, where the excitement of the day ahead was mixed with apprehension about the rain. When the weather turns, there is very often an alternative indoor venue to fall back on, but not in the case of this wedding, but this is what made this wedding all the more fantastic to photograph!
Upon arriving at the beach, Bruce and the wedding guests were there, donning their ponchos and grabbing umbrellas in anticipation for the bride’s arrival. Following an emotional ceremony, the bride and groom made their vows under a brolly. All of the smiles from the newly weds, family and friends illustrated that the rain didn’t stop anyone from enjoying this moment.
The newly weds were happy to make the most of a break in the clouds, and get some great portraits on the beach, before everyone set off to the reception to enjoy the rest of the day.
Both keen mountain bikers, Rowan & Bruce had arranged for their reception to be held at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre, a first for this venue which is part of the 7Stanes network of mountain bike trails. They had decorated a butchers bike, the seating plans were arranged on bicycle wheels and tables were named after local trails, little touches which made this a very unique and personal wedding.
I loved being able to capture this day for such a lovely couple.
